One major portion of building a custom ride is "performance". All builders and auto tuners want their rides or their customers' rides to handle the same way as they look. Imagine this, an SUV with tons of body modifications, custom wheels, interior modifications, and imagine that under the hood is a ton of polished components and upgrades. A lot of horsepower is needed to move something that large and to make it fast a lot of horsepower is needed, so think supercharger! There's nothing better then the "need for speed!" The thrill of going fast and feeling the rush is an absolute thrill. Whether you are driving a sleek import or an American muscle car, either vehicle can give a speed junkie a big smile when they are pinned back into the seat with the throttle slammed to the floor!
Imports have been the current craze in the custom auto scene lately and unless you have been kept in a dungeon for the past 7 years, you know what I'm talking about! Across the ocean it's amazing what they do to their rides with aftermarket bolt on components. There's no telling where the end is in an import car. For instance pick up an issue of "Import Tuner" and tell me that you can't stop drooling over the intense creations that is held within! I read "Import Tuner" and it never ceases to amaze me how awesome import cars are when they are tuned to the max! Import enthusiasts/builders do everything to those compact cars. You name it, engine modifications, interior, exterior, chassis, wheels, rims, lights... the list goes on and on. Not one inch is left untouched in their hands!
The same thing is also happening here in the good ole' U.S. of A Those street legal rockets can be found everywhere. Honda's, Nissan's, Mitsubishi's, and Acura's roam the streets at every corner and tuners modify the hell out of them with body kits, low suspensions, huge chrome rims wrapped in low profile rubber bands, clear head lights, Euro tail lights, tinted windows, etc. The engines and interior's don't stay stock at all, just like our Asian and European counterparts rides! Tons of polished parts are bolted in along with every horsepower toy to make your ride haul ass! These are the types of cars that grab your attention rollin' down your street with wide tip exhaust and/or neon lighting under the chassis which makes the car appear as if it is floating on air.
Now, we can't forget about all of you pure raw horsepower fans, you know who I'm talking about... the true American muscle car fans! Some owners and builders install nitrous in their rides, but most prefer raw horsepower. These builders tend to customize their rides with air cleaners, cool and power carburetors, huge blowers, small wheels up front, enormous tires out back, noisy gear drives, and custom exhaust systems with enough power and noise to scare the hell out of ya! For all you import and muscle car fans watch either Fast & The Furious or even 2 Fast 2 Furious, and you tell me which car you enjoy watching. Is it a fully tweaked Mitsubishi or a restored Dodge Charger or Chevy Camaro? In both movies there were scenes of American muscle vs. import agility. We know from the first movie (for those who have watched it) Dominic Toretto's (played by Vin Diesel) Dodge Charger was trashed when he hit that 18 wheeler, but the muscle car was holding its own against the quick and sleeker Toyota Supra up to that point. In 2 Fast 2 Furious, Brian (played by Paul Walker) races a 1968 Chevy Camaro and just barely wins in a split second when Brian uses a few "racing tactics" along with the use of NOS.
Overall either manufacturer has unique and amazing rides that use the advantage over the other's disadvantage. So, whether you be are an import fan or a diehard American muscle fan, build that special ride that is best for your heavy foot and your driving habit!
Until next time... keep on Kruisin'!
