In September 2002, I was covering the Kiwanis Auto Show in White House, Tennessee when I ran across Jason Bullocks' ass in the grass (literally) Chevy hauler. At the time it was sporting a single paint scheme with a set of 18 inch Billet Specialties wheels, an all tweed interior, a custom molded roll pan with Toyota Supra taillights, and a totally smoothed and shaved body. It was no doubt the best damn truck at the show and just about any other show for that matter!

As legend says, Jason did get the attention of a few magazines as well as a few judges that year. Alas, victory is short-lived in the custom world and Jason knew this. Just like any other hardcore enthusiast, especially one who is a member of the Relaxed Atmosphere auto club, Jason dragged his mini into the garage where it was stripped of its former self. Parts were exchanged for the much needed green backs that would be used to purchase all the new parts that would be used in the re-invention of this Bullocks Body Werks build up.

For starters, I want to mention that this truck was basically re-built from the ground up, including the suspension, interior, exterior, engine compartment... you name it! Most of the body mods were performed on the first initial build and other mods were completed (and removed) in this build. Since Jason has made so many body mods, we find it challenging to separate the new from the old, so simply the following body mods have been performed: a three inch body drop, shaved and molded: door handles, wiper system, hood squirters, parking lights, cab seams, firewall, taillights, gas door, antenna, third brake light, tailgate handle, side mirrors, and rear bumper.

On the nose, a Goodmark cowl induction hood replaces the stock hood. The front bumper receives the shaved and molded one-piece treatment along with a Street Scene valance. Completing the nose is a phantom billet grille by Precision which is also molded in the bumper as well.

Outback, the old roll pan with Supra taillights was swapped out for a traditional Sir Michael's steel roll pan with molded in High-Tech LED lighting. The frenched-in license plate box was filled in to give the rear end a totally smooth appearance. On the inside of the bed, Jason and the Bullocks Body Werks crew cut out the stock floor and in its place, put a smooth sheet metal floor with custom made fender wells.

With the body mods complete, the most obvious change was set in motion... the paint. This time Jason decided to go with a two-tone paint scheme with street rod appeal. So, Jason loaded the paint gun and covered the top half in DuPont Meadow Green and House of Kolor Galaxy Grey on the bottom half. Separating the two colors is a House of Kolor True Blue Pearl flamed stripe.

The entire chassis also received the House of Kolor Galaxy Grey paint treatment, but after the suspension was worked out. Under the nose, chrome tubular control arms were installed along with Belltech dropped spindles and Firestone 2500lb airbags. In the rear, a custom built tubular and chromed cross member protrudes through the center of the flooring which holds the Firestone airbags and ties into the eight inch C-notch. A chromed Pete & Jakes four link, mounted backwards, finishes off the rear suspension. Providing the up and down motion are two Viaire 450 compressors hooked up to three-three gallon air tanks. I also want to note that all suspension components were either painted green or chromed.

Under the hood, Jason decided to go all out and really put some detail in the Chevy powerplant. In order to achieve such a task, the Chevy V-6 was removed from its home and taken apart. The block, heads, and various other engine parts were smoothed and painted to match the body's top exterior color, green. Amongst the sea of painted components, Jason also sent out parts to be chromed, such as the mounting brackets, alternator, belt pulleys, and a Billet Specialties air cleaner. To show you just how much of a detailed eye Jason has, he even added blue hose covers that pretty much match up with the blue stripe that separates the two toned paint scheme!

As mentioned earlier, this truck's interior was all about tweed in the cab. Jason mentioned to me that when he began the re-build of his truck, he wanted to give it a bit of a street rod appeal on the outside as well as on the inside. With that said, you will totally understand his choice of leather over tweed. The tweed on the dash was removed and major dash features were removed, such as the glove box, and filled in. Instead of covering the dash in leather, Jason decided to load up the paint gun and paint it to match the upper portion of the truck's exterior. With the dash mods complete, Jason tossed the keys to Stretch & Sew Custom Interiors where the interior was covered with gray leather including: the Honda Prelude bucket seats, headliner, and door panels.

Once the truck was returned to Jason, he decided to do something a little different by cutting up a few pieces of chromed diamond plate and making a custom center console that flows up to the dash, which houses the switches for the adjustable air suspension. From the scraps of diamond plate, Jason also had enough to cut two floor mats as well. Finishing off the interior mods include a Billet Specialties steering wheel and various other chrome accents.

In the audio department, Jason kept things subtle with an Alpine head unit spinning tunes to a series of Polk audio components, powered by a US Amplifier, which are hidden from view.

Last, but not least, Jason hopped online and went through tons of magazines before deciding on a set of new wheels. Seeing how his old wheels had found a new owner earlier on during the build up, new rollers was a very important and necessary purchase! Jason decided to stick with the Billet Specialties brand and purchased SLX-45 wheels measuring 20x8.5" for the rear with 255/35/20 Nitto 555 Extreme rubber laying down the traction and 18x7" for the front wrapped in Nitto 215/35/18 rubber.

Jason Bullock is one of the best when it comes to fabrication and an eye for detail. As much as I like the old version of his truck, after giving the new version a close look, I have decided that I like the new version even better. This may be the final version of this truck while it is in the hands of Jason Bullock, but new ideas for another project are no doubt brewing in Jason's mind even as I type this story. In the meantime, we can all sit back and appreciate Jason's "Good Werks".

Shout Out: "Special thanks to GC Valves, Stretch & Sew Custom Interiors, Relaxed Atmosphere, Jeff Simpkins, Johnny Watson, and my family: Tracee, Conner, and Kaytlyn. All work, except the seats, was done at Bullock's Body Werks: 615-389-3267." -Jason Bullock
