For $ale?, By Kevin Hertzog

In the custom scene the hardest thing that every builder has to face and something that enthusiasts are shocked by is when a cool custom ride is put on the market for sale. It's a sad sight to see a "for sale" sign on a custom ride especially one that I know the builder spent a lot of hours building. Some rides I've seen for sale in my hometown of Rochester, New York are mild to wild customs, and I've heard a ton of reasons why they are for sale.

First reason I've heard is their girlfriend/wife are playing second fiddle (or violin if you prefer) to a custom car/truck and they do not like it. In this case, a woman makes their man sell off their pride and joy, so they can get some attention. The second reason, and probably the most common reason, is the lack of funds. In my book this is the biggest killer in any custom build because without any green notes in your pocket a cool custom concept can become a 2,000- 3,000 paper weight very quickly! The third reason I hear is your vehicle continues to get vandalized, broken into, or too many tickets from the cops. The fourth and last reason I hear is a lack of interest in the build. too sad.

So, which reasons are good and which ones are bad? Hard to say, but it's surprising what type of custom rides you'll find for sale. We are talking about wild rides that are turnkey customs and to be honest that's not a bad way to start. You may not get the respect from the hardcore knuckle bustin' enthusiasts out there, but at least you will have a cool custom cruiser.

Now, here is the downside when someone sells their ride. It's true it isn't yours once it is sold, but I can only imagine how hard it can be to watch something that you built get destroyed by some young kid that doesn;t give a damn. What is even worse, is when someone buys it then flips it to another buyer at a higher price! So, it's a difficult task to do, but when you are needing some money or when your baby just isn't happy there just aren't many options.

In closing I just want to note that this is me, Kevin, saying farewell to the "final word" here on Elite Streets Magazine and all I have to say is good luck to all the enthusiasts that show their rides, but most of all have fun and enjoy the shows!
